Peer Support
Find out how Jiemin Primary School's Peer Support Leaders build a caring school community through bonding, helping, and influencing their peers.
At Jiemin Primary School, we believe that every Jieminite can be a peer supporter. Through Peer Support and Relationships (PSR), students learn to care for one another, build positive relationships and contribute to a safe and supportive school community.
All students develop basic peer support knowledge and skills. Selected students from Primary 3 onwards are further developed as Peer Support Leaders (PSLs), who take an active role in strengthening our culture of care through Peer Bonding, Peer Helping and Peer Influencing.
Our Approach
Peer support is about equipping students with the confidence and skills to look out for one another. Through age-appropriate learning experiences, students learn to build friendships, recognise when a peer may need support, listen with empathy and seek help from trusted adults when needed.
Peer Support Leaders receive further training and opportunities to put these skills into practice by serving and positively influencing their peers.
Peer Bonding

Our Peer Support Leaders help create opportunities for students to connect and develop a sense of belonging.
They welcome new Jieminites during Primary 1 Orientation and facilitate PLAY (Patience, Listen, Appreciate, Yay!) @ Jiemin, a structured recess programme where students interact and build friendships through play. These experiences develop communication, collaboration and positive relationships among students.
Peer Helping
Students learn that supporting a friend begins with noticing, listening and knowing when to seek help.
Peer Support Leaders are equipped with skills such as ACT3 (Approach, Calm down, Talk, Think of solution and Take action) to recognise when their peers may need support, listen with empathy and connect them with a trusted adult. They also encourage and affirm their peers through initiatives such as motivational messages for Primary 6 students.
Peer Influencing

Peer Support Leaders help promote kindness and responsible behaviour both offline and online.
Through student-led initiatives such as Mindful Monday, Safer Internet Day, Kindness Week and other school activities, they encourage their peers to show kindness, make responsible choices and maintain a positive presence online.
Building a Culture of Care

Through peer support, students discover that everyone has a part to play in creating a caring school. By learning to connect with others, offer support and positively influence their peers, Jieminites grow to become empathetic and responsible members of the school community.
