Student Leadership
Jiemin Primary School nurtures every student as a leader through a three-stage programme. Discover how students grow from self-leadership to serving the school community.
At Jiemin Primary School, we believe that every Jieminite is a leader and that leadership begins with learning to lead oneself. Grounded in our school values and social-emotional competencies, our leadership development approach provides every student with opportunities to develop confidence, responsibility and the ability to positively influence others.
As students grow, their leadership journey progresses from leading themselves, to leading by example, and ultimately, leading to serve others.

Our learning experiences
Leadership development is a progressive journey at Jiemin, spanning over each student's six years of primary education. Through age-appropriate leadership opportunities and training, students are guided to discover, develop, and strengthen their leadership potential. Our approach focuses on three key areas: providing opportunities to lead, developing students with leadership training, and nurturing those with the potential to take on greater leadership responsibilities. Learning experiences are differentiated across three developmental stages: Primary 1–2, Primary 3–4, and Primary 5–6, ensuring that every student receives developmentally appropriate experiences and support to develop and grow as a leader throughout their years at Jiemin.
A Leader in Me | Primary 1 - 2
actions, manage themselves and make positive choices.
Through everyday classroom roles and experiences, students begin to understand that everyone can demonstrate leadership, regardless of whether they hold a formal appointment.
Lead by Example | Primary 3 - 4
As students grow, they learn to positively influence others through their actions. They are given opportunities to take on greater responsibilities, work with their peers and demonstrate our school values in different settings.
These experiences develop confidence, communication and teamwork while helping students understand the importance of being a positive role model.
To Lead is to Serve | Primary 5 – 6
At the upper primary levels, students deepen their understanding that leadership is ultimately about serving others and contributing to the community.
Students who are ready take on greater leadership responsibilities and are given opportunities to lead their peers, contribute to school initiatives and serve the wider school community.
Supporting every student and developing our prefects
Each student will be consistently guided, monitored, and supported by teachers throughout their school years to develop strong self-leadership competencies.
Students with leadership potential may be further developed through various student leadership opportunities, including the Prefectorial Board, Peer Support Leaders (PSLs) and CCA leadership appointments. The Prefectorial Board provides a key platform for students to develop their leadership competencies. Prefects receive leadership training in areas such as communication, public speaking and guiding their peers to uphold our school values. They put their learning into practice by leading school initiatives, sharing messages with fellow Jieminites and supporting key school events such as Primary 1 Orientation, Teachers' Day celebrations and the Annual Prize Presentation. Through these authentic experiences, our Prefects grow as confident and responsible leaders who understand that leadership is not simply about holding a position, but about making a positive difference to others.
