Our Purpose
Chinese Dance nurtures expressive, graceful and resilient performers who appreciate the richness of Chinese culture and the arts. Through purposeful movement, collaborative choreography and performance, students develop discipline, confidence and creativity while learning to express themselves and connect with others through dance.
What We Learn
Students develop a strong foundation in dance techniques, body coordination, rhythm and musicality, learning to use movement purposefully to communicate ideas, emotions and stories. Through exposure to traditional and contemporary Chinese dance forms, they also deepen their appreciation of Chinese culture and learn how cultural traditions can be expressed and reinterpreted through the arts.
Dance is also a collaborative endeavour. Through rehearsing and performing as an ensemble, students learn to observe and respond to one another, coordinate their movements, communicate non-verbally and contribute towards a shared artistic vision. They learn to listen to feedback, make adjustments and persevere through the repeated practice needed to refine a performance.
In the process, students develop 21st Century Competencies such as communication, collaboration, cross-cultural literacy, adaptability and resilience — growing not only as confident performers, but also as thoughtful team members and appreciative learners of culture.
The CCA Experience
Learning extends far beyond regular practice sessions. Students experience professional guidance, body conditioning workshops, and school-wide performances. A key highlight is participating in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation, where students work toward achieving a high level of accomplishment while representing the school with pride.
