Malay Dance
Discover how Malay Dance builds confidence, social skills, and a love for the performing arts in students.
Our Purpose
Our Malay Dance CCA offers the students an opportunity to discover their passion and talent in the performing arts through a vibrant platform. The CCA fosters meaningful friendships and social integration among students of diverse backgrounds, nurturing a strong sense of identity and belonging to both the school and the wider community.
What We Learn
Students are introduced to the rich traditions and genres of Malay dance and culture, developing artistic techniques and expressive skills that allow them to communicate and perform with confidence. Students also learn to appreciate the cultural heritage behind each dance form, making meaningful connections between the art, its traditions and the stories it expresses.
Growing Our 21st Century Competencies
Through learning, rehearsing and performing together, students develop important 21st Century Competencies such as collaboration, communication and cross-cultural literacy. They learn to coordinate with others, respond to feedback, adapt and refine their movements, and contribute towards a shared artistic vision. In the process, students grow in confidence and resilience, take ownership of their learning, and develop an appreciation of the cultural traditions and expressions that enrich our diverse society.
The CCA Experience
Students are given varied opportunities to bring their learning beyond regular rehearsals, from performing for their schoolmates at school-based celebrations and events to participating in platforms such as the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation. Through these experiences, students learn to perform with confidence and composure, adapt to different audiences and settings, and work closely as an ensemble. The process of preparing for performances also develops discipline, resilience and a commitment to continuous improvement, as students learn to manage challenges, support one another and take pride in presenting their best as a team.
