Art
Find out how every Jieminite grows as an artist through creative exploration, authentic learning experiences and opportunities to develop their unique artistic voice.
At Jiemin Primary School, we believe that Every Child Is An Artist. Every student has the potential to imagine, create and express ideas through art. Through nurturing curiosity and shaping growth, we provide a supportive environment where students explore their creativity, develop confidence and discover their unique artistic voice.
Beyond developing artistic skills, learning Art helps our students become thoughtful and creative individuals who appreciate different perspectives, cultures and the world around them.
Our learning approach
Students learn Art through exploration, inquiry and hands-on experiences. They are encouraged to observe closely, ask questions, experiment with different materials and techniques, and reflect on their creative choices.
Learning experiences are designed to support students with different strengths and interests, giving every child opportunities to experience success and grow as an artist. Students also collaborate, share ideas and appreciate one another's work, developing communication, critical thinking and empathy along the way.
Technology further supports learning by enabling students to document their creative journey, reflect on their progress and share their work with others.
Signature learning experiences
Primary 1 to Primary 6 Curriculum-Based Learning
A progressive art journey across all levels where students explore diverse art forms and media—including drawing, painting, clay work, printmaking, and digital art—building versatility through knowledge, values and skills through the years.
Museum-Based Learning
Our Primary 4 students visit the National Gallery Singapore, where they encounter artworks and Singapore's artistic heritage beyond the classroom. Through guided experiences and related classroom activities, students learn to observe, interpret and appreciate art in an authentic museum setting.
Aesthetics Week
Our annual Aesthetics Week brings Art and Music to life across the school. Through engaging activities and performances, students experience the joy of creativity while discovering connections between the arts, culture and their everyday lives.
Art Exhibitions
Student artworks are celebrated through school exhibitions that make both the artwork and the learning journey visible. Students have opportunities to share their creations, ideas and artistic thinking with the wider school community.
Artist-in-School Programme
Primary 5 students learn alongside professional artists through experiences such as stop-motion animation. These authentic experiences expose students to new artistic techniques, contemporary forms of art and the possibilities of creative work beyond the classroom.
Supporting every learner
We recognise that every child's artistic journey is different. Learning experiences are designed with appropriate guidance and opportunities for choice, allowing students to explore Art at their own pace, build confidence and develop their individual strengths.
Stretching our learners
Students are given opportunities to extend their creativity through varied art forms, authentic artistic experiences and platforms to showcase their work. Through these experiences, students are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks and continue developing their artistic voice.
