Our learning approach
Jiemin Primary School's Science Sparks programme is built on the belief that every Jieminite is a natural inquirer with a passion for the environment.
Aligned with MOE's science curriculum vision of the 3 Ins — Inquire, Innovate, and Inspire — the programme offers pupils a rich variety of learning experiences, from classroom lessons and experiential learning to learning journeys beyond the school.
The curriculum is anchored by three key programmes. The Learner's Corner develops inquiry-based learning, equipping all pupils with foundational science knowledge and skills. The Young Explorer programme encourages pupils to innovate, apply their learning, and construct new understanding through experiments and project work. The Go-Green Jieminite programme rounds this off by inspiring pupils to become active, responsible citizens and change-makers who conserve and regenerate the environment in an ever-changing world.
Underpinning all three is a commitment to embedding 21st Century Competencies throughout the curriculum, developing pupils who are critical and adaptive thinkers with strong communication skills — ready to advocate for sustainability and thrive in future learning and work.

The Learner's Corner
The Learner's Corner programme is the foundation of science education in Jiemin, dedicated to nurturing every Jieminite as an inquirer, equipping all pupils with foundational science knowledge and skills.

The Young Explorer
The programme encourages pupils to innovate, apply their learning, and construct new understanding through experiments and project work. Students present their findings at the Magic of Science showcase, allowing them to become critical and adaptive thinkers with strong communication skills.

The Go-Green Jieminite
The programme aims to inspire pupils to become active, responsible citizens and change-makers who conserve and regenerate the environment in an ever-changing world.
Supporting every learner
The Learner’s corner programme is the foundation of science education in Jiemin, dedicated to nurturing every Jieminite as an inquirer. Recognising that our pupils are diverse in their needs, interests, and aptitudes, the programme offers a wide range of learning experience designed to foster a genuine sense of inquiry.
Pupils are encouraged to question their surroundings, test their ideas, and draw evidence-based conclusions during lessons.The programme takes a spiral approach to the systematic acquisition of process skills and effective answering technique, revisiting previously taught skills at each level while introducing new ones to support continuous growth. Differentiated pedagogical approaches are employed to cater to diverse learning styles and needs as pupils progress through the levels.
At each level, specific learning strategies are implemented to strengthen understanding through self-evaluation tools such as summary notes, process skills practice and practice papers. For upper primary pupils, a customised approach to familiarize pupils with the PSLE format and question types. Teachers use these tools to assess and monitor pupil readiness before advancing to the next phase of teaching and to provide timely feedback.
To foster greater joy of learning, the programme incorporates Student Learning Space [SLS] lessons where pupils explore science concepts through plays. Gamification lessons are especially designed to make solving science questions engaging and enjoyable. Practical lessons at all levels provide hands-on learning experiences, ensuring that every jieminite builds a solid foundation in scientific knowledge and skills.
Stretching our learners
E2k Science is a school-based enrichment programme designed for upper primary pupils who demonstrate a strong aptitude and keen interest in science. The programme offers an alternative approach to learning, empowering pupils to take on the role of scientists as they plan, conduct, and analyse open discovery experiments. Through this process, pupils formulate research questions, design experiment protocols, determine the necessary equipment, carry out experiments, present their findings, and draw meaningful conclusions.
Beyond the classroom, pupils have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of science concepts through hands-on STEM activities at the Science Centre. They also participate in national competitions, where they build confidence, develop resilience, and foster adaptive thinking.
