Music
Every Jieminite gets a chance to develop their musical potential through authentic experiences in music making.
At Jiemin Primary School, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to experience the joy and transformative power of music. Through joyful, inclusive and engaging experiences, we nurture students to discover their unique musical voice, develop strong musical foundations and grow in their confidence and love for music.
Beyond developing musical skills, students learn to express themselves creatively, collaborate with others and experience the joy of making and sharing music as part of a vibrant musical community.
Our learning approach
Students learn Music through three interconnected processes: Listening, Creating and Performing. Through singing, movement, instrumental playing, improvisation and composition, students explore musical ideas and progressively build their musical understanding and skills.
Learning is active and collaborative. Students listen to one another, perform in ensembles, create music together and reflect on their performances. Through these experiences, they develop creativity, confidence, discipline and teamwork while learning to appreciate different forms of musical expression.
Signature learning experiences
Building musical foundations
Our Primary 1 and Primary 2 students experience music through singing and movement. Through rhythmic activities, musical games and creative exploration, students develop their sense of beat, pitch and rhythm while discovering the joy of making music.
Discovering instruments
As students progress, they develop instrumental skills through a range of musical experiences. Primary 3 students experience Orff ensemble playing and the recorder, while Primary 4 students further develop their musicianship through the recorder and keyboard. These experiences strengthen music literacy, coordination, confidence and ensemble skills.

Creating and arranging music
At Primary 5, students learn to play the ukulele and explore song arrangement. They experiment with melody, harmony and rhythm while creating and performing music individually and collaboratively.
Music and technology
At Primary 6, students bring together their musical learning through GarageBand and Jam Band experiences. Using digital tools and instruments, students create, record and mix music before collaborating with others in ensemble performances. These experiences encourage creativity while developing confidence in both digital and live music-making.
Sharing the joy of music
Learning extends beyond regular lessons through platforms such as Aesthetics Week, where students have opportunities to perform, experience different forms of music and share their musical learning with the school community.
Growing through music
Through a progressive journey from singing and movement to instrumental playing, composition and digital music-making, every Jieminite is given opportunities to discover and develop their musical potential. We hope that these experiences inspire students to continue creating, performing and enjoying music throughout their lives.
