ICT and Digital Literacy

At Jiemin Primary School, we harness technology to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences and prepare our students for an increasingly digital world. We nurture active learners, critical thinkers and responsible digital citizens who are confident in using technology to learn, create, collaborate and solve problems.

Our learning approach

Technology is meaningfully integrated into learning across subjects to help students explore ideas, collaborate with others and take greater ownership of their learning.

Students progressively develop the skills to use a range of digital tools for learning, communication and creation. Through authentic learning experiences, they also learn to find and evaluate information, make responsible choices online and use technology safely and purposefully.

Signature learning experiences

Building digital foundations

From the lower primary years, students develop essential digital skills such as touch-typing, navigating online learning environments and using the Singapore Student Learning Space. They also learn the importance of staying safe and responsible online.

Creating and collaborating with technology

As students progress through primary school, they use digital tools to communicate, collaborate and create. These include word processing and presentation tools, digital art applications and online research, enabling students to express their ideas in different ways.

Coding and digital creation

At the upper primary levels, students extend their digital capabilities through experiences such as coding, programming and digital music creation. Through programmes such as Code for Fun, students develop computational thinking and learn to approach problems creatively and systematically.

Using block-based coding at the Code For Fun programme, Primary 6 students get their Sphero robots to dance to the beat.

These competencies are taught within the context of different subjects, so students learn to apply them in authentic, purposeful ways. By the time they leave Jiemin, they are confident in using technology to learn, communicate, and solve problems.

Learning beyond the classroom

ICT also empowers self-directed learning. Students use digital platforms to extend their learning beyond school hours — exploring online resources, revisiting lesson materials, or working on personal projects. They are encouraged to take ownership of their learning pace, deepen their understanding, and pursue their interests with technology as a tool for discovery.
